| MMECC - Mainstreaming Methodology for the Estimation of the Costs of Crime 5th December 2008 Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore - Largo Gemelli 1, Bontadini Hall - Milan Why is it important to assess the economic and social costs of crime? What methodologies have been developed to date? What are their weaknesses and strengths? To what extent are they applicable in the Member States of the European Union? These are the key questions addressed by the MMECC - Mainstreaming Methodology for the Estimation of the Costs of Crime research project, whose results will be presented at this conference. The study, funded by the European Commission within the VI Framework Programme for Scientific Research and Technological Development, has been conducted by the Centre for Criminal Justice Economics and Psychology of the University of York (UK) together with many international institutions and research centres, including Transcrime/Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano.
