 .
Observatory on Security in Trentino

The research activity undertaken by the Observatory on Security in Trentino is aimed at analysing issues related to criminality, deviance and insecurity in the Province of Trento and in Italy, with the final goal of identifying – on the basis of foreign experiences – efficient and effective policies to reduce such phenomena. The result of the research is the Report on Security in Trentino, which is published annually.

Integrated Security System

The Integrated Security System of the Autonomous Province of Trento favours an ordered and peaceful social life, promoting – according to an integrated logic -, the networking and the coordination of security actors and of interventions aimed at crime prevention, re-socialisation, mediation and harm reduction. Transcrime performs various activities within the framework of the Integrated System, among which:
  • a survey of problems and of security needs of the municipalities in Trentino, through the management and updating of a database, and the elaboration of territorial security profiles (i.e. spreadsheets for the level of security of each municipality);
  • updating of a database on existing documentation on crime and urban security;
  • daily collection of crime news through a press review undertaken on 47 newspapers (international, national and local);
  • scientific contribution to the PAT in activities of the Italian Forum for Urban Security.

Within the Integrated Security System project, Transcrime has also conducted technical-scientific studies for specific projects whose results have been published in the Infosicurezza series.
Finally, Transcrime conducts research defined annually together with the Autonomous Province of Trento. Among the most recent publications: "Scenarios on Security in Trentino. Between Real Security and Perceived Security" and "From a Happy Island to an Open Workshop. Security in Trentino  2003-2008, 2008-2011", which exemplifies what has been done in regard to security in Trentino, and what can be done in the proximate future.
